“Hand in hand towards a green world”, a youth event in Damascus to promote environmental culture

With the aim of highlighting the green world in all its details, the “Green Makers” youth team held an agricultural environmental event entitled “Green Corner”, which constituted a new opportunity for those interested in agriculture to exchange plants and learn about ideas and methods of recycling organic and inorganic waste, as well as to simplify the concepts of agricultural culture to non-professionals.

“Hand in hand towards a green world”, is the slogan of the event that was held last Saturday and Sunday on the occasion of the biodiversity and environment days at the Youth Support Development Foundation Center in Damascus, according to Nasser Al-Qadi, a project manager at the foundation.

He said that the event included an environmental exhibition for the exchange of plants and another to display art paintings related to nature and the environmental field, in addition to a room for recycling plastic waste and organic fertilizer.

Agricultural engineer Omar Hourani, facilitator of agricultural activities for children and adolescents and coordinator of the activities department in the team, explained that his workshop was entitled “Biodiversity and its Role in the Environment”, in which he explained the concept of biological diversity, its importance, the challenges facing it, methods of preserving it, and how it helps in maintaining human health.

For her part, agricultural engineer Saja Muhammad al-Jurdi, an agricultural project trainer and founder of the team, pointed out that her workshop was titled “Be Environment Friendly”, in which she dealt with the concept of the environment, its definition and elements, climate change and its impact on the environment and environmental sustainability.
