Hama, Aug.6, (ST)- Hama Agriculture Directorate has declared that the fig crop for the current season in Hama province is estimated at 7844 tons.
Head of the Directorate, Sattam al-Khalil said that the fig tree is planted in the villages and towns of the province, especially in Massyaf area and the number of the fig trees reaches 664 thousand.
The farmer, Muhammad Al-Jumaili, pointed out that the fig tree enjoys abundant production, but the marketing process for it is difficult because there is no public authority that wants to buy it.
“The fig crop is sold in the local market and it is subject to the balance of supply and demand, which defines the price. So its prices differ from one area to another,”, he added, asserting the need for the existence of markets for the crop and the establishment of public or private factories to benefit from high production quantities.
