DAMASCUS, (ST)-By severing diplomatic ties with Syria, the West has committed historical mistake, National Reconciliation Minister Ali Haidar has stressed.
Haidar, who was speaking to journalists following a meeting yesterday with Isolde Moylan, the Irish Ambassador accredited in Syria but resident in Cairo, said the “West is trying to come from backdoors to correct its mistake.”
The minister said “the Irish ambassador didn’t carry any political message, she only wanted some points to be clarified and she has got the answer.”
“The visit is an attempt to bring diplomatic ties with Syria closer,” added the minister.
He stressed the solution to the crisis in Syria is based on two different tracks; an international solution and a Syrian solution through lunching a political process.
On Geneva2 conference, he said “We wanted the conference to prepare an objective base that helps launch the political process which cannot start without international cooperation.”
He urged the international community to shoulder the responsibility towards fighting terrorism along with the Syrian state and to seek a political process to launch national dialogue in Syria.
Haidar affirmed that national reconciliation continues across Syria, referring to the success of many reconciliation cases in the country.
