Haddad: Syria on Brink of Full Elimination of Foreign-Backed Terrorism

TSKHINVALI, (ST)- Syria’s Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad has stressed that Syria is currently on the brink of full victory over terrorism.

“The Syrian people, who believe in and rally behind their leadership and army are on the verge of eliminating foreign-backed terrorism in Syria,” Haddad said during a meeting on Saturday with President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov in the capital Tskhinvali.

Haddad is in the South Ossetian capital, as a representative of President Bashar Al-Assad, to take part in the ceremony held today marking the 10th anniversary of the Russian Federation’s recognition of South Ossetia’s independence.

The Syrian ambassador, who conveyed President Al-Assad’s greetings to President Bibilov, added that “nothing would weaken the Syrians determination to defend their country and national options”.

He went on to say that President Al-Assad is greatly interested in boosting relations with South Ossetia to serve the mutual interests of the two countries.

“The Syrian Arab Republic’s official recognition of South Ossetia and the establishment of diplomatic ties at the embassies level, confirm the Syrian stance on the right of the people of South Ossetia to have their independent state in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles of the International Law,” Haddad said.

He hailed President Bibilov’s visit to Syria last month which resulted in signing agreements to upgrade Syria-South Ossetia ties.

“We look forward to witnessing an Ossetian participation in the 60th Damascus International Fair to start implementing the signed agreements,” Haddad said.
