Syria’s Ambassador to Russia Riad Haddad has stressed that the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society in Russia has effectively supported the Syrian people in their war against international terrorism and this support has benefited the Syrian people and enhanced the deep rooted relations between Syria and Russia.
Haddad made the remarks during a ceremony held on Saturday marking the 140th Foundation Anniversary of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society in Russia. The ceremony was opened by the society’s President Sergey Stepashin in the presence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. A number of diplomats and officials also attended the ceremony.
Haddad clarified that the society has played a main role in conveying a real image about events in Syria and about the extremist takfiri terrorism that has faced the Syrian people over the past years.
He reiterated that the Syrian people won’t forget the society’s keenness on providing humanitarian assistance to the Syrians to help alleviate their suffering due to the economic siege imposed on them and due to stealing their oil and food resources by the West and the United States.
On his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the noble mission of the society must be enhanced, as the situation in the Middle East and in the entire world is not easy anymore. He pointed out that the society was established as an important project to protect the citizens who are subjected to persecution or who are displaced from their countries due to extremism and terrorism.
He affirmed that the western states are not implementing their obligations to fight extremism, hatred and discrimination, noting the society’s continuous support for high ideals and values in the struggle against the imposition of the illusory and harmful values currently adopted by the West.
