Haddad calls on peace-loving peoples to join efforts against foreign interference in sovereign countries’ internal affairs
MOSCOW, (ST)-The Interim Committee of the Russian Federation Council held on Tuesday in Moscow a symposium on prospects to prevent foreign interference in the internal affairs of sovereign countries.
Syria, Cuba, Venezuela, China and Cambodia took part in the event besides Russia.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Andrei Klimov said during the opening ceremony that the United States is working to spread chaos and instability within certain countries under the pretext of spreading and expanding democracy in the world, thereby, trying to get rid of the governments whose policies don’t conform with those of Washington.
On his part, Syria’s Ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad said that Syria has witnessed the interference of some countries, like the United States and its allies, in its internal affairs in a flagrant violation of international laws and the principles of international relations.
“These countries claimed the right to interfere in Syria’s internal affairs and decide the future of the Syrian people,” Haddad added.
Haddad pointed out that “the world is witnessing flagrant violations of the international law by countries that claim to be great in order to dominate the world and control its resources.”
“These countries also imposed unilateral coercive economic measures on Syria that have affected all categories of the Syrian society,” he went on to say, noting that the foreign interference in Syria has also been embodied in the western countries’ open military, political and financial support for the terrorist groups fighting the Syrian government.
The Syrian diplomat pointed out that the United States, France and Britain have illegally sent their forces to Syria to occupy Syrian lands and steal the Syrian people’s resources in the country’s eastern region.
The Turkish regime’s recent occupation of parts of Syria’s north formed one of the forms of aggression on Syria’s sovereignty, Haddad said, calling on peace-loving peoples to confront these aggressive acts and to join efforts to stand against interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
