Guterres: We are committed to meeting humanitarian needs and implementing early recovery projects in Syria

Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres affirmed his strong commitment to continuing work in order to meet humanitarian needs and implement early recovery projects in Syria, noting the importance of cooperation between the United Nations and Syria, especially in the light of the challenges that the world is witnessing today.
During the ceremony of accepting the credentials of Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak as Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, which took place at the headquarters of the international organization in New York, Guterres expressed his hope that security and stability and well-being will return to Syria and the Syrian people, noting the historical status and cultural heritage that Syria enjoys.
The UN Secretary General commended Syria for what he touched on Syria’s embrace for refugees during his previous work as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
For his part, Ambassador Al-Dahhak conveyed the greetings of President Bashar al-Assad to the Secretary-General, and expressed his aspiration to working with him, stressing Syria’s support for his efforts to promote, implement and defend the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.
Al-Dahhak stressed that Syria, the founding member of the United Nations, is keen on maintainng constructive cooperation relations with the international organization, and it seeks strengthening them in a way that supports the efforts of the Syrian state in the humanitarian and development fields, enhances early recovery projects and provides basic services to the Syrian people.
