Guterres: UN ready to cooperate with the new Iranian government to attain peace and maintain human rights in the world

Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres has announced the UN’s readiness to cooperate with the new Iranian government for attaining peace, security and sustainable development and for maintaining human rights in all parts of the world.

According to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), Guterres said in message to the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi that “the new Iranian government starts its tasks while we are all facing dangerous circumstances and common challenges, including Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and long destructive conflicts, mainly in the Middle East.”

“I count on the cooperation of the Iranian President and government with the aim of enhancing the values and aspirations provided in the UN Charter,” Guterres added.

Raisi became Iran’s new President on August 3rd, 2021 after winning Iran’s presidential elections held in June in which he garnered more than 61% of votes.
