Guterres to refer the ICJ advisory opinion to the General Assembly

NEW YORK, JUL.20, (ST)-The United Nations said that its Secretary-General, António Guterres, is set to refer the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to the General Assembly, which requested the court’s advice on procedures related to the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

A statement issued by the United Nations in Guterres’ name last night said, “It is up to the General Assembly to decide how to move forward in this matter.”

Guterres stressed the need for “the parties to re-engage in the long-awaited political path towards ending the occupation and resolving the conflict in line with international law, relevant United Nations resolutions and bilateral agreements.”
