The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, affirmed the support of the international organization for the efforts of the Palestinian people to obtain their inalienable rights, and to build a future of peace, justice, security and dignity.
Guterres made it clear in his speech delivered on his behalf by the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya, during an event organized today on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, according to what Wafa Agency reported, that the long-term causes of what the Palestinian territories are witnessing continue, primarily the occupation, settlement expansion, and the destruction of homes. The displacement operations and the continued “Israeli” imposition of the blockade on the Gaza Strip, and the resulting humanitarian crises. Guterres renewed the call for action to lift the blockade and improve the living conditions of all Palestinians.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations indicated that UNRWA will remain the vital artery for all Palestinian refugees, noting the support of donors, and calling on them to enhance sufficient funding so that the Agency can fulfill its mandate and obligations.
Guterres also touched on the position of the United Nations on the Palestinian issue, saying: The peace process must be advanced and the occupation must be ended.
