Guterres: The Corona pandemic has pushed 100 million people around the world into poverty

New York (ST): The  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has confirmed that the Corona pandemic has pushed more than 100 million people around the world into poverty and left about 4 billion others without social insurance, health care or income.

The Russia Today website quoted Guterres as saying in a speech before a committee of the International Monetary Fund that global solidarity does not exist in practice, and that those who live in countries experiencing conflict and poor countries suffer the most, noting that inequality in access to vaccines is an ethical deficiency that leads to millions of deaths and prolong the economic slowdown that could cost trillions of dollars and hit the poorest countries the most.

Guterres pointed out that the indicators that show that the world is witnessing a great economic recovery do not explain the great disparity between rich countries and poor countries and the least developed ones.

The United Nations confirmed last June that the repercussions of the Corona pandemic on the world of business were four times worse than the financial crisis in 2008.
