Guterres: The Israeli authorities should stop the demolitions and evictions in Jerusalem

New York (ST): The UN  Secretary-General António Guterres has called on the Israeli occupation entity to abide by international laws and stop the demolition and evacuation activities in occupied Jerusalem.

In a statement issued by Guterres’ spokesman and reported on the United Nations website, the Secretary-General expressed his deep concern about what is happening in occupied East Jerusalem, as well as the possibility of Palestinian families being evicted from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhood of the city.

Guterres called on the Israeli occupation authorities to stop the demolitions and evictions in accordance with their obligations under international humanitarian law and international human rights law. He urged adherence to and respect for the status quo in the holy places.

The Israeli occupation forces have stepped up their Judaization steps in occupied Jerusalem, the latest of which was the attempt to evacuate dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood with the aim of giving them to settlers.
