Guterres stresses the necessity of solving the crisis in Syria politically in a manner that preserves its sovereignty

New York (ST): The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, stressed the need to work to resolve the crisis in Syria politically in a manner that preserves its sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.

Guterres said in a statement: “We must demonstrate the will and determination to go beyond just talking about a commitment to peace and do whatever is necessary to achieve a negotiated political solution based on Security Council Resolution 2254,”.

He added: “This is the way to a solution that meets the aspirations of all Syrians, creates the necessary conditions for the safe return of refugees, resists terrorism, and preserves Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.”
