Guterres Reaffirms Golan Is an Occupied Syrian Land

CAIRO, (ST)- UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has reaffirmed that Golan is an occupied Syrian land.

During a press conference with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri in Cairo on Wednesday, Guterres affirmed that “Golan is an occupied Syrian territory, and that the UN will work to preserve the integrity of the Syrian lands.”

He said that the UN seeks preventing negative effects of the US President Donald Trump’s declaration on occupied Golan in which Trump recognized the Israeli occupation entity’s “sovereignty” over the Syrian Golan.

Last month, Guterres, during his meeting with Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari, stressed that the stance of the United Nations and his own stance on Golan are firm and well-known as it is based on international legitimacy resolutions which clearly say that Golan is a Syrian Arab land occupied by “Israel”.

Syria has affirmed its complete rejection of Trump’s irresponsible declaration on occupied Syrian Golan, pointing out that it expresses the highest degree of US contempt for international legitimacy and that it is a slap in the face of the international community.
