Guterres calls on the donor countries to continue their funding for UNRWA

New York United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on the donor countries to “ensure the continuity” of the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Guterres said in a statement today, reported by AP: “I appeal to the governments that have suspended their contributions to at least ensure the continuity of UNRWA operations.”

In turn, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini considered the suspension of funding by some countries to the organization, “shocking and tantamount to collective punishment for the Palestinians.” He called on these countries to rescind this decision.
