Guterres calls for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip from the Rafah crossing to ensure the arrival of aid

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an unconditional humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to ensure that aid reaches the people of the Strip, pointing out that the agency “UNRWA” will handle the distribution of aid.

“The residents of the Gaza Strip are suffering from a lack of water, food, fuel and basic materials, and we need to transfer aid trucks from the Rafah land crossing on the Egyptian side to the Palestinian side in large numbers, and this should be accelerated,”Guterres said during a press conference today in front of the Rafah crossing.

“There are more than two million people in Gaza living under a stifling blockade without food, water or fuel,” Guterres added, noting that despite the agreement to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, there are conditions that hinder its access to the Strip.

Guterres stressed that the United Nations is not seeking to bring in “one convoy, but wants to bring in enough aid trucks to support the residents of the Gaza Strip”.
