Guarantor states of Astana process assert their adherence to Syria’s sovereignty

The Guarantor states of Astana process (Russia, Iran and Turkey) have reiterated their adherence to Syria’s sovereignty,  independence  and territorial integrity  asserting the need to go ahead with fighting all types of terrorism and the separatists’ agendas that aim to undermine Syria’s regional sovereignty.  
 
They condemned in the final statement of the 16th round on Astana Talks that were held over the past 2 days, the killing of innocent citizens by terrorist groups , mainly ISIS and Al-Nusra Front. 
 
The statement asserted the continuation of joint action to combat terrorism in Syria until its final elimination, rejecting  all attempts to create new facts on the ground under the pretext of fighting terrorism and looting oil revenues that should belong to the Syrian Arab Republic.
 
It denounced the continuous Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, which violate international law and international humanitarian law.
 
The statement also affirmed the commitment of the guarantor countries to advance the political process carried out by the Syrians and facilitated by the United Nations in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
 
it rejected any outside interventiom and any artificial timetables on the committee to discuss the constitution in Geneva and the need to support it in order to ensure its sustainable and effective work.
 
The statement called on the international community to facilitate the safe and voluntary return of the Syrian refugees and displaced people to their homeland.
 
 It indicated that the 17th round of Astana meeting on Syria will be held in Nur-Sultan before the end of 2021, taking into consideration the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
