Greece, Iran to Further Facilitate Mutual Ties

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias asked his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif to further streamline bilateral relations.

Addressing a gathering on untapped capabilities in Iran-Greece relations, he referred to the numerous areas the two countries have been cooperating in for a long time and said Iran held significant place in the Greek foreign policy.

He said Athens and Tehran could cooperate in such areas as tourism, medicine, energy and transportation.

Earlier, in a meeting with Zarif, Kotzias said that his visit to Iran is a trip of ‘friendship, peace and trust.’

‘We are going to look forward to promoting cooperation on common avenues,’ Kotzias said.

During Kotzias’ trip, the two countries are expected to sign agreements on shipping and tourism.

Kotzias arrived in Tehran on Saturday night to take part in the first Iran-Greece trade conference on Monday that will focus on undiscovered opportunities.

The two foreign ministers also conferred on ways to fight with terrorism and extremism.

The Greek foreign minister is due to meet President Hassan Rouhani and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani.

Possible military dimension of Iran nuclear program invalid, says Zarif

Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said on Sunday that alleged possible military dimension of Iranian nuclear program is invalid.

Speaking in a press conference after a meeting with the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, Zarif said that Iranian nuclear program had never possible military dimension and the allegation is invalid.

‘We have reached an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to survey and close the file once for good and the agency posed some questions respectively and Iran answered them in accordance with the roadmap,’ said Zarif.

He added that Iran is waiting for IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano’s Iran report and final resolution the IAEA board of governors is expected to pass.

Zarif said that the outstanding issue is mistakenly referred to as the PMD, because Iran’s nuclear program had never military dimension.
