Grand Mufti: Syria Facing War Aiming to Undermine Resistance, Unity Culture

BEIRUT, (ST) –  Syria has been paying dearly for the regionally-backed incitement and sedition schemes against the country, said  Syria’s Grand Mufti Ahmad Badruddin Hassoun on Thursday.

During the meeting of the Good Offices Committee of the 26th International Islamic Unity Conference in Beirut, Mufti Hassoun described what is going on in Syria as a war waged against the country to undermine the culture of resistance, unity and coexistence Syria has for long been defending.

The Mufti stressed that the role of religious men in good offices is to urge all thinkers in the Arab and Islamic world to hold dialogue so as to prove that all Moslems and Arabs are  targeted.

Hassoun urged the development of new curricula to reconsider the sectarian thinking which has been politically exploited by conspirators to achieve their evil designs in the country.

The Grand Mufti pointed out that tens of satellite channels are being watched in the Arab and Islamic worlds.  “All of them are politically motivated working under the cover of religion to provoke chaos and incitement in the Islamic world,” he added.

During the meeting, Deputy Secretary General of Hizbollah Sheiklh Na’eem Qasem said that there is a west-made decision aiming at snatching Syria from the heart of resistance equation, stressing that the only way out of the crisis in Syria is to attain a political solution that halts  the state of “violence” which serves Israel only.

According to Qasem, the United States is keen to serve the Israeli project in the region, so it can’t be an honest mediator seeking the attainment of peaceful settlement in Syria.

For his part, Secretary General of the World Assembly for Convergence among Islamic Sects, Sheikh Mohsen al-Araki condemned the extremist, takfiri and terrorist movements which aim at fueling sedition among peoples of the Islamic nation, urging honest men of religion to spare no effort to silence the sedition calls made by some “religious” men.
