Grand Mufti: Army Tasked with Protecting the Nation against Conspirators

DAMASCUS, (ST) – Syria is progressing towards victory, said Ahmad Badr Eddin Hassoun, Syria’s Grand Mufti, stressing that Syria is an example of diversity, strength, amity and good. He affirmed that Syria is now being targeted by the hatred of the world’s most technologically-advanced countries and of some regional and Arab states, since it is the only remaining example of a civilized nation.

Interviewed by the Syrian TV last night, Hassoun affirmed that the Syrians will not surrender to the conspiracy which targets their identity and religious history.

He pointed out that the so-called religious media tries to create religious and sectarian division in Syria, asserting that it is the responsibility of all the Syrians to defend their history and protect their homeland from the schemes targeting its existence.

“The Syrian Arab Army is a nation’s army. It is tasked with protecting the homeland and defending the Arab and Islamic nations. It is not affiliated to a certain person, party or sect as promoted by the tendentious satellite channels which are partners in the Syrian bloodshed,” Hassoun said.

He added that the army was prepared to confront the Zionist enemy, not to fight within Syrian cities or to kill and destroy, “but now this army is in a state of self defense as the homeland is facing the conspirators’ media, takfiri and military wars.”

The Grand Mufti urged the Syrian army to be honest in defending the homeland and called on traders and employees not to exploit the current circumstances for greedy purposes.

He also appealed to the Syrian mothers and fathers to urge their sons to join the Syrian army so as to defend the homeland against the global conspiracy targeting its land, people and institutions.
