Marking the 46th anniversary of the October liberation war, the governorate of Damascus Countryside honored about a thousand families of martyrs and veterans in a festival organized at the Conference Palace in Damascus.
During the festival, the Orpheus Orchestra led by Maestro André Maalouli played pieces of music simulating Damascus history and greatness, in addition to presenting a panorama of local musical heritage in all governorates.
The great artist Duraid Lahham participated in the band with a song about Syria, while other artists took part with the song “I write the name of my country”.
In a speech during the festival, Deputy Defense Minister, General Mahmoud Showa said that the martyrs who drew the map of victory and the future of the homeland are the title of dignity and the symbol of sacrifice, and that the martyrdom was and still is the headline of every honest person who refuses humiliation and adheres to the sanctity of the land.
In a similar speech, the Governor of Damascus Countryside, Alaa Mounir Ibrahim, stressed that October liberation war and Correctionist Movement embody the reconstruction and adherence to the rights and causes of Syria, indicating that the October war will remain vivid with the vigor of its men, people and army.
From Lebanon, the great poet Nizar Francis read some of his poems.
In statements to SANA correspondent, a number of families of the martyrs expressed their pride in the martyrdom of their sons, stressing that the love of the country exceeds any love and that they are ready to give their most precious possessions.
Members of the families confirmed that their martyrs sacrificed for the sake of their country.
Secretary of the Damascus Branch of the Baath Arab Socialist Party Radwan Mustafa, Rector of Damascus University, Dr. Mohammed Maher Qabakibi, Chairman of the General Federation of Trade Unions Jamal Al-Qadri and Chairman of the Union of Youth Revolution Maan Abboud attended the ceremony.
