DAMASCUS COUNTRYSIDE, SEP.28, (ST)- The Governor of Damascus Countryside, Ahmed Khalil, discussed with the head of the UNHCR mission in Syria, Gonzalo Gabriel Vargas Llosa, and the accompanying delegation, the role of the commission in contributing to securing the necessary supplies for those who are arriving in Syria as a result of the brutal Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
During the meeting held at the governorate’s headquarters today, Khalil referred to the measures adopted by the governorate and its immediate response to meet the requirements of those who are arriving from Lebanon and to meet their basic needs.
The governor stressed that the new circumstances require high levels of cooperation and coordination and a broader role for UNHCR and international organizations in providing support to expatriates and supporting government efforts in securing relief and logistical requirements and providing food supplies such as infant formula and medical and health care for patients and the elderly.
For his part, the head of the Commission’s mission said that the Commission will provide all support and assistance quickly and urgently and will coordinate with all UN agencies working in Syria to meet the necessary needs, pointing out that the Syrian government and the Syrian people have set an example for the whole world in receiving and hosting those who are arriving to Syria and meeting their needs despite all circumstances.
