Government, local efforts to remove the rubble and search for missing persons in the damaged sites in Lattakia continue

Government and local efforts continue in the earthquake-affected areas in Lattakia Governorate with the aim of removing the rubble and searching for missing persons.
Engineer Hussein Zengerli, head of the Lattakia City Council, confirmed in a statement that since the first hours after the eeathquake, the city council’s workshops headed to damaged areas to provide assistance.
Zengerli indicated that there are about 20 collapsed buildings in the city, and the operations of removing rubble, evacuating and searching for missing persons are continuing with the participation of government and private agencies and civil society.
He added: About 25 people were evacuated yesterday and the search for missing persons is still going on. In addition, 70 other people were evacuated from under the Yemen Roundabout Bridge and transfered to Al-Wahda and Osama bin Zaid schools.
Zengerli pointed out that the Fire Brigade and Civil Defense of the Governorates of Quneitra and Damascus Countryside provided support and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees distributed aid and food materials to the people. Shelters were also established in different areas of the Governorate, he clarified.
With regard to the procedures used to deal with cracked buildings, Zengerli indicated that public safety committees have been formed at the city level to detect buildings and take the necessary measures, in a way that guarantees the safety of all residents.
