The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in cooperation with the Federation of the Chambers of Agriculture on Saturday organized a meeting in Damascus for government officials and investors with the aim of encouraging agricultural investment and discussing the obstacles facing this process.
The situation of agriculture in Syria, production and marketing requirements, the future vision to develop the agricultural sector and the facilitations provided by the new investment law No. 18 for 2021 to investors were reviewed during the meeting.
Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Hassan Qatana stressed the importance of this meeting to highlight the laws that govern investment in the agricultural sector and to discuss ways of eliminating any obstacles that face investors.
On his part, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer Al-Khalil said that the government has been keen on providing all support for investment to strengthen this sector and direct new investment projects towards the sectors which occupy top priority.
He pointed out that the agricultural sector’s contribution to the domestic production is more than 14%, stressing that this meeting is an opportunity to boost investment in agriculture.
Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh, on his part, stressed the importance of suggesting projects for investment in the agricultural sector due to the availability of the agricultural products that are necessary for industrial production.
