Government Keen on Helping Displaced Syrians Return Home: Minister

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs Ali Haidar has stressed the Syrian state’s insistence to prepare suitable circumstances for the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland, pointing out that several executive logistic and administrative procedures have been adopted for this purpose.

Haidar made the remarks during his meeting on Wednesday with the Lebanese Ambassador in Damascus Saeed Zakhya.

“Lebanon can’t distance itself from what is going on in Syria, especially because some Lebanese parties have played a  part in the conspiracy which has been targeting Syria,” said the minister noting that this conspiracy targets the entire region including Lebanon.

Displaced Syrians’ File is being exploited for political blackmailing

“The file of the displaced Syrians in Lebanon, like in other neighboring countries, is being exploited for political blackmailing and corruption under humanitarian pretexts,” he added.

Haidar hailed the brotherly relations between the Syrian and Lebanese people, stressing that it is a relation of common destiny that can’t be affected by the administrative borders created by the ill-famed Sykes –Picot agreement.

He clarified that the liberation of the joint borders in al-Qalamoun areas and the barrens from the common terrorist enemy has been a good example of the common destiny of the peoples of the two countries.

The minister  went on to say that projects to help internally displaced people return to their areas are expanding after local reconciliations were achieved in several areas, pointing out that soon the country will witness the return of a big number of displaced people to their houses in Deir Ezzor, Aleppo southeastern countryside, Damascus countryside and other areas.

Coordination is needed

On his part, the Lebanese diplomat affirmed the need to enhance coordination between Syria and Lebanon as to find a mechanism to tackle issues of common interest to serve the interests of the peoples of both countries.
