As part of the activities of the Syrian Fine Art Days organized throughout a number of Syrian governorates, Dr. Ghaith Daher holds his first solo exhibition at “Fateh Al-Mudarres” Gallery in Damascus.
With his great passion and artistic talent, sculptor Dr. Ghaith Daher, exhibited a new and distinct experience in the world of sculpture, through 24 sculptures engraved on wooden panels using “Relief art,” which he added to the Syrian plastic movement in a professional and innovative way.
Relief wood art is a sculptural method in which the sculpted pieces remain attached to a solid background of the same material.
“Art reflects society’s culture and development . It is a clear mirror of society’s way of life and its approach between the past and the present. Art expresses society’s issues and reality” The Minister of Culture, Dr. Diala Barakat said in a statement to the Syriatimes e-newspaper.
She indicated that the 24 sculptures on wood bearing multiple titles varied between nature, women, Sufism and the human body .
The minister added that there is a combination of technology and art, sometimes using colors or spaces, and displaying relief sculptures according to multiple themes, and accomplishing them with high professionalism, as art carries a sublime message.
Dr. Daher said “Art is considered a message that has a profound impact on the soul and has a meaning in life, where creativity, distinction, originality, and uniqueness lie, and it is the means to express ideas, feelings, and sensations.
“Certainly, art has a message and importance in conveying the culture of peoples to the world and to history, just as the arts of past eras depicted for us artistic paintings that reflected some wars and social, royal, and religious life” he added.
Dr. Ghaith Daher emphasized that his art works varied between the classical, realistic, and expressive styles.
“Since my childhood, I have been fascinated by the idea of wood carving. It is true that I studied medicine, but the obsession with art continued to haunt me. I was sure that I had latent creative potential that I needed to unleash,” Dr. Daher said.
Through his sculptures at the exhibition he embodied scenes of nature, the countryside, and the sea, with simple and complex details
He indicated that “There are sculptures bearing an iconographic character based on ancient stories, which embody cases of popular heritage, and others that belong in their symbolism to contemporary art.
The artist added: “I work with beech wood, which is called (the mother of the forest), to embody my ideas and sculptural works on it.
A number of visitors expressed their admiration for this unique art, in addition to the topics of the sculptures, which shed light on various topics, especially the topic of women, who are distinguished by their strong character in the face of difficult circumstances.
It is worth noting that the sculptor, Dr. Ghaith Daher, was born in Damascus in 1965. He is a medical doctor, specializing in preventive medicine, a graduate of the University of Damascus, and a resident of Lattakia.
He participated in a number of local and abroad exhibitions .
