Germany, Iran: No Military Solution in Syria, Extremists Should be Addressed

TEHRAN,(ST)_ German Acting Foreign Ministry von Gotsh said that his country and Iran agree that there is no military solution in Syria because such solution only increases the suffering of the Syrian people , and that continued operations by the extremist groups must be addressed.

Gotsh indicated, during a meeting in Tehran yesterday , with Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian Majlis ( Shoura Council) AlaeddinBoroujerdi that Germany and Iran adopted identical views concerning developments in Syria .

For his part, Boroujerdi said that Iran emphasized since the beginning that dialogue among the Syrians is the only way to resolve the crisis in Syria , warning that a military solution will further complicate the crisis in the region.

Boroujerdi pointed out Iran and Germany have common views on the need to combat terrorism , drug smuggling and resolving regional crises such as Iraq , Afghanistan and Syria through continued negotiations and consultations.

The Iranian parliamentarian said that his country welcomes strengthening relations with the European countries and hopes that these countries change their policies concerning the sanctions , pointing that the imposition of illegal sanctions on Iran leads to wastage of commercial and economic opportunities for the German companies .

Boroujerdi noted that the Iranian government has taken steps depending on its capabilities and enormous human energies to provide the needs of the country and U.S. and European companies were the main sides affected by these sanctions , calling for strengthening parliamentary relations with Germany.

In another context, Broujerdi confirmed that some international and regional states and forces bear the responsibility of promoting terrorism and destabilizing security and stability in the region through arming terrorist groups and supporting extremist groups in Syria.

He added during a meeting with the Swiss Assistant Secretary of State yesterday, ” only dialogue and negotiation between the Syrians themselves contribute to ending this crisis,” pointing out that Iran commended Syria’s accession to the Treaty on the prohibition of chemical weapons and approval to destroy its chemical weapons .

Boroujerdi said that Iran’s policy is based on the idea of making the Middle East free of nuclear weapons , calling to strip the Zionist entity of its nuclear weapons .

Boroujerdi reiterated Iran ‘s peaceful nuclear activities , pointing out that Iran strives to free the Middle East from nuclear weapons , given the enormous risks and the devastating consequences of the use of nuclear weapons .

” Enjoying common views and relations based on mutual respect have provided enormous energies to enhance regional and international cooperation between Iran and Switzerland because the use of these energies would leave a significant impact in upgrading the level of relations between the two parties ,” the Iranian official emphasized

For his part, the Swiss Assistant Foreign Minister said that his country considers that the negotiations between the Syrians and leaving the fate of Syria to be determined by the Syrian people is a solution for the crisis in Syria and that the Geneva Conference contributes to play a significant role in the solution.

The Swiss official stressed his country ‘s interest in combating terrorism along the lines of Iran , pointing out that the most important issue in this regard is to study the elements that contribute to the emergence of terrorism and to prevent its occurrence .
