German writer criticizes German media’s handling of false reports about the alleged chemical attack in Douma

Berlin (ST): “A violation of journalistic and professional standards,” this is how German writer Julian Marius Plotz described the BBC’s report on the alleged chemical attack in 2018, which the BBC recently admitted contains serious errors and false allegations. He at the same time criticised the German media’s handling of that report and other reports about that alleged incident.

In his article in the German newspaper Young Vegaheit,  Plotz pointed out that the German media dealt with the narrative pattern of false information published by the “BBC” and other reports issued by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons blindly, as the false news related to the chemical attack dominated the German  media at the time.

The British Daily Mail newspaper said earlier this month that “BBC” admitted that the documentary film broadcast on its channel “Radio 4” in November of last year about the alleged chemical attack in the city of Douma contains dangerous errors and false allegations, noting that, according to the arbitrators in this case, the documentary by BBC investigative journalist Chloe Hadjimatyo failed to meet the organization’s editorial standards for accuracy by publishing false claims.

The German writer indicated that the BBC’s recognition illustrates the methods used by the Western media in dealing with events in Syria, which lack the required objectivity and are limited to one point of view. He said: It is clear that the BBC should have manipulated facts so that Western politicians can justify their intervention in Syria as the German media have blindly accepted the false information that the BBC has published.
