German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, during a press conference in Damascus, said “the German embassy in Damascus has officially opened, and we will support Syria politically and economically. The Syrian people need support and reconstruction”.
“Germany stands with the Syrian people on their path to peace. The first steps toward unifying the country have been taken, and subsequent steps must be achieved in partnership with all components of society”, she added.
“We pledged €300 million at the Brussels conference as part of our efforts to achieve economic stability in Syria,” Baerbock also said.
“We emphasize that the political process must include all components, sects, and ethnicities before refugees can return,” she went on to say.
“The opening of our embassy in Damascus signifies a long-term commitment to Syria, and the staff there will gradually expand as the security situation improves,” the German minister clarified.
She affirmed that Syria must belong to all Syrians, and we called on the government to prosecute those responsible for the crimes.
“Iran is one of the main parties violating Syrian sovereignty and is involved in recent events in the Syrian Coast,” she indicated.
She reiterated that Israel must respect international law and not attack neighboring countries.
