Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, confirmed that Western countries are intentionally destroying the foundations of global strategic stability and institutions responsible for international security, noting that recent challenges and events require independent countries to possess well-equipped and trained armed forces.
Novosti news agency quoted Gerasimov as saying during the opening of the session of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the CIS “Commonwealth of Independent States” in Moscow today: “Tension hotspots arise in different parts of the world due to external influence, and international terrorism with the support of the western countries continues to pose a comprehensive threat to the world.” He pointed out that under these circumstances, the challenges facing the ASEAN countries have become increasingly real and diverse, which requires them to have well-equipped and trained armed forces.
Gerasimov noted that joint work between the ASEAN countries begins by learning about the achievements of the Russian military industrial complex and the promising developments that are being implemented in the military field, calling for deepening research into the military-political situation that is developing in the world and on the borders of the ASEAN countries and discussing issues of building and developing joint military systems. The session further discussed trends in combat training and field training for ASEAN forces and multilateral military cooperation.
