Gerasimov: The natural resources of the Syrian people are getting stolen in places where the American occupation forces are present
Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, confirmed that the unilateral Western economic measures imposed on Syria and the presence of terrorist organizations in several regions of the Syrian territory hinder stability there. The Russian Chief of Staff pointed to the theft of Syrian natural resources in places where the American occupation forces are present.
Gerasimov pointed out during a briefing he gave to foreign military attaches accredited to Russia on the results of the Ministry of Defense’s activities for the year 2023 in Moscow that the situation in Syria is still difficult due to these conditions, in addition to the consequences of the natural disaster that occurred in February of this year, which affected the lives of more than eight million Syrian citizens. He further pointed out that the most dangerous situation remains in the areas of the Syrian Jazeera, Al-Tanf, and the de-escalation zone in Idlib, where terrorist organizations continue their terrorist attacks against civilians and the Syrian army.
Gerasimov explained that in the northeast of the country, under the auspices of the United States, the illegal plunder and sale of natural resources belonging to the Syrian people continues.
In another context, Gerasimov presented the developments of the Russian special military operation to protect Donbass during the last six months, and said: About 160,000 Ukrainian soldiers were neutralized, 3,000 tanks and armored vehicles were destroyed, and 121 warplanes and 23 Ukrainian helicopters were shot down.
Gerasimov stressed that the main mission of the Russian forces this year was to repel the counterattack by the Ukrainian forces, which sought to reach Crimea, noting that the number of Ukrainian forces on the Zaporozhye axis was increased from 50 to 80 battalions, amid the heavy losses the Ukrainian battalions suffer because of strikes by the Russian forces.
Gerasimov pointed out that the West transferred more than 5,200 tanks and armored vehicles, more than 1,300 artillery, 100 warplanes and helicopters, and 23,000 drones to Kiev, while about 100,000 Ukrainian military personnel were trained in the United States and Europe. The West further supplied Kiev with 200 “Stormshadow” and “CM” missiles, American and British, and despite this, the Kiev forces were unable to achieve their goals.
On the other hand, he pointed out that assassination attempts on journalists and representatives of the administrations of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions remain the norm for the Kiev authorities, stressing that Ukraine does not abandon attempts of nuclear terrorism and systematically sends drones loaded with explosives to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
Regarding the global situation, Gerasimov stressed that a new multipolar world is being formed today, with the hegemony of the United States and its allies becoming a thing of the past. He considered that Europe has become an arena for confrontation between the West and Russia in the political and economic fields, as about 40 major maneuvers are held annually near Russia’s western borders, and their scenarios are based on armed confrontation with Moscow.
Gerasimov pointed out that the West seeks to create new hotspots and support conflicts in the Balkans, Moldova, the countries of Transcaucasia, Central Asia and Afghanistan, stressing that US sanctions against Russia sparked a food crisis in Africa that led to a change in power in a number of countries.
Gerasimov pointed out that Russia, despite all the failed attempts to weaken it, continues its drive to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership with China and India.
