General Authority for Land and Sea Ports issues unified customs duties bulletin

DAMASCUS, JAN.11, (ST)- Today, Director of Relations at the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, Mazen Alloush, declared that, as of today, Saturday, a unified customs duties bulletin has been issued and it will be applied by all customs secretariats at land and sea ports and airports from the date of its issuance.

Alloush added that the unified bulletin took into account the protection of the local product by encouraging industry through reduced duties on raw materials, and it also implemented the crop calendar to protect the farmer and support the agricultural sector.

“The bulletin aims to support the industrial sector and enhance investment by providing exemptions to investors and factory owners who were forced to moved their equipment out side Syria as a result of war , and wish to return to the country or who wish to bring in new integrated factories,” he clarified.

Alloush in addition asserted that the unified customs duties reduced the previously applicable duties by 50 to 60%, and it will have a direct impact on citizens throughout the Syrian geography by enhancing their ability to consume and meet their needs at reasonable prices.

He indicated that this will contribute to raising the standard of living of all citizens.

Alloush concluded by saying: “The unified customs duties bulletin is the first step in a series of successive steps that aim to raise the standard of living for citizens, ensure a decent life for them, support the industrial and agricultural sector and attract local and foreign investment.”
