The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Affirmed its support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, reiterating its rejection of foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs.
This came in a statement, reported by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), citing Nasser Al-Hayen, Chairman of the Council of Ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, during an interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, within the framework of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Al-Hayen affirmed in the statement, the GCC states’ support for all efforts aimed at a achieving comprehensive political transition in Syria, attaining security, stability and prosperity under the rule of law and justice.
He said the GCC welcomed the convening of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, expressing hopes that it will contribute to fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of Syrian people of all segments while preserving Syria’s unity and sovereignty.
Al-Hayen also reaffirmed the GCC’s call for lifting sanctions on Syria and providing all means of support to the Syrian people, affirming the Council’s continued commitment to providing humanitarian assistance.
