The US Republican presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard said that President Donald Trump is looting Syrian oil by using US military forces.
“These oil resources belong to the Syrian people,” Gabbard said in an interview with Fox News on November 3.
“What is regrettable is that Trump is changing his approach. He has said for a long time that he wants to bring our troops out of Syria. And now he says he wants to keep them not for the fight against ISIS but for oil fields that do not belong to the United States. These oil resources belong to the Syrian people,” Gabbard said.
Gabbard said that this action represents new evidence of “modern-style looting” that has been taking place in Syria since 2011.
Gabbard called for an end to the war on Syria and said:
“I strongly believe that it should never have started and it is necessary to end it now.”
Gabbard stated that the United States has for many years supported armed groups in Syria linked to terrorist organizations such as ISIS and al-Qaeda.
Washington is trying to complete its colonial role in Syria and the region, both politically and militarily, through its forces, which are carrying out acts of robbery and looting of Syrian oil.
This was confirmed by the Russian Defense Ministry recently. The Ministry published pictures showing convoys transporting oil outside Syria under the guard of the US military forces.
The Spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry Major General Igor Konashenkov said that all the mineral resources in the Syrian territory belong to the Syrian Arab Republic neither to the Daesh terrorists nor the “American protectors.”
On November 1, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Washington is smuggling oil from the fields of northeastern Syria.
“The Americans have exceeded the sanctions they have imposed themselves and they are smuggling oil from Syria worth more than 30 million dollars a month,” she added.
“It seems they will not leave that area in the near future. The US forces’ practices regarding oil fields in northeastern Syria are illegal,” Zakharova said.
