Francis: Invading Palestinian city of Rafah will lead to more disasters

New York, (ST) – The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Denis Francis affirmed that nothing justifies the Israeli invasion of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. He warned that this matter would lead to more humanitarian disasters.

Wafa News Agency reported that Francis warned in a post on X platform against launching any Israeli military operation on the city of Rafah, which is inhabited by more than a million displaced people. He said: I say it frankly; nothing justifies the reckless attack on Rafah, which will lead to more humanitarian disasters.

Since yesterday, the occupation forces have been intensively bombing the city of Rafah, which includes more than 1.5 million Palestinians, most of whom are displaced.

Today, they entered the Rafah crossing and closed it completely, threatening of a real disaster, as the crossing is the only route for aid to enter the Strip.

In Johannesburg, the Republic of South Africa confirmed that the Israeli occupation’s invasion of the city of Rafah in the south of Gaza Strip will destroy the last shelter for displaced people in the Strip.

Wafa News Agency quoted the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation in South Africa as saying in a statement today: We are deeply disturbed by the developments in Gaza Strip and horrified and astonished by Israel’s announcement of the necessity of evacuating Rafah immediately through excessive force in preparation for its invasion by land.

The Ministry pointed out that Rafah has become a shelter for the displaced after the occupation’s aggression, which aims, through its invasion of the city, to displace the people of Gaza Strip in violation of international law. It stressed that this matter cannot be justified.
