Paris (ST): French Defense Minister Florence Parly emphasized that neither the European Union nor the United States had any interest in entering into a direct military clash with Russia.
TASS news agency quoted Parly as saying in a radio interview in response to a question about whether Paris would send troops to Ukraine, “We have not declared war on Russia. I don’t think any of the European Union countries or the United States wants to fight against it. Our goal is a ceasefire.” She added, “Russia is a nuclear power, as well as NATO countries. Do you want a nuclear war?”
The French minister pointed out that nuclear weapons are weapons of deterrence and should not be used, considering that “the priority for France, as well as for NATO, is to ensure the security of member states, especially on the eastern flank, and Ukraine is not a member of NATO.”
