Four Syrian teams qualified for the ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest after obtaining advanced positions in the regional final of the 2024 ICBC Programming Competition for University Colleges in the Arab World and Africa.
The event was organized last week by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in the Egyptian city of Luxor, with the participation of 137 teams from more than From 73 mosques
According to a statement by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the qualified Syrian teams represent the universities of Damascus and Tishreen, the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, and the Syrian Virtual University, with one team from each university.
The statement added that Syria was represented in the contest by 15 teams from eight universities in addition to 3 youth teams.
The Syrian teams, according to the statement, won three silver medals, two for the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology and another for the Virtual University, and two bronze medals for the Universities of Damascus and Tishreen, in addition to another bronze medal for one of the adolescent teams in the contest that was held for adolescents in parallel with the university championship.
The final of the contest took place last Wednesday with the participation of a group of university student programmers, trainers and academics working in the field of informatics at the level of the Arab world. It lasted five continuous hours and included high-level programming issues.
The global final of the ICPC is scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan during the second half of this year.
The contest is called the “War of Minds” , and it is more than just an academic and technological competition, as it has become the basis for building a more cooperative global information society.
Participants are not only required to solve problems, but rather to innovate smart and effective ways of solving them.
