The Former Syrian Ambassador to Jordan, Major General Bahjat Suleiman, died on Thursday at the Tishreen Military Hospital in Damascus at the age of 72.
The late ambassador was born in Latakkia in 1949. He graduated from the Military College in Homs and commanded several military formations and became a Major General in of the Syrian Arab Army.
Suleiman took part in the 1973 October War of Liberation against the Israeli enemy and participated in repelling the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982.
Suleiman obtained a doctorate in political economy in 1982 and a doctorate in military sciences from Moscow in 1998.
He retired in 2009 and was appointed as an ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to Jordan.
Maj. Gen. Suleiman took part in dialogue sessions to defend Syria’s national stances and explain the terrorist war that has been targeting the country.
He wrote many books on political, social, economic and military issues.
