Former Indian diplomat mocks west for spreading lies about events in Syria

The former Indian diplomat Hardeep Singh Puri has underscored his country’s adherence to its stance towards the political resolution of the crisis in Syria, scoffing the western policies that claim defending human rights.

His remark was made during a celebration held by the Foreign Journalist Club in New Delhi on the occasion of the release of his book entitled: “Perilous Interventions…The Security Council and the Politics of Chaos”.

The former diplomat talked in his book about the details of the crisis in Syria and how the UNSC dealt with it, according to the Damascus-based al-Watan newspaper.

The paper quoted Mr. Singh Puri as saying: “When India assumed the presidency of the UNSC in 2011, it rejected military intervention in Syria and called on all parties to stop the fight and to allow the Syrian people to choose who will lead them.”

He added that the U.S., France and Britain purposely obliterated facts in the UNSC about Libya, Syria and Yemen.

“The western media outlets and the strategic Research Centers have lost their credibility as they fabricated events and conveyed false images about what is going on in these countries,” the Indian writer affirmed.

He underlined that the western countries that claim defending human rights all over the world are turning a blind eye to the violations of human rights in the region where civilians are being killed and public properties are being destroyed.

Mr. Singh Puri served as the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations from 2009 to 2013 and he is a retired Indian Foreign Service Officer.
