Foreign Ministry: Western allegations about uses of chlorine gas as weapon in Syria ‘illogical’ and ‘cheap publicity’

DAMASCUS, (ST)_Foreign and Expatriates Ministry has said continuity of allegations of chemical weapons use in military operations by Syria serves but terrorists that perpetrate all forms of crimes supported by western states, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry confirmed that the western frenetic campaign being launched by the US, its western allies and Arab tools against Syria includes fabrications about chemical weapons use in some northern areas and aims to divert the international community’s attention from Syria’s success in fulfilling its obligations under the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (CPCW).

Exploitation

“Exploitation of recent discussions, held in the United Nations in New York and in the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, about report of the Fact Finding Mission pointed by the OPCW Director-General to investigate alleged uses of chlorine gas as weapon in Syria is cheap publicity and illogical because the report has not reached definite results,” the ministry said.

It underscored that the discussions unveiled the double- standard policy of the US and its allies, indicating that the western states turn a blind eye to the uses of Chlorines gas by the terror organizations Daesh [IS or ISIL] in Iraq.

The ministry highly appreciated the stances of all states that reject  subjection to dictations of western states and their agents.

“Syria reiterates that it condemns the uses of chemical weapons or weapons of mass destruction anywhere and by anyone. It also confirms that it has not used chlorine gas or any other toxic substance in any operation in the Syrian Arab Republic since the beginning of the crisis,” the ministry added.

Adherence to CPCW

It stressed Syria’s adherence to the CPCW and continuity of its full cooperation with the OPCW. “Supported by its friends and states that stand by the Non-Proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and respect the UN charter and international law,  Syria will foil all evil attempts that aim to sully its image and to cancel its achievements.”
