DAMASCUS, (ST)-Addressing the UN Secretary General and the Security Council’s President in two identical letters, the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said that the Israeli occupation forces on Wednesday violated the Disengagement agreement of 1974, the UN Charter and the international law by firing four missiles from occupied Syrian Golan sites against a school and a mosque in al-Hamidiyeh site in al-Quneitra province. The ministry added that the Zionist occupation forces also fired four tank shells against al-Hurriya site and opened machinegun fire on al-Hamidiyeh site wounding seven security forces personnel and four civilians.
According to the ministry’s letters, the aggression reiterates Israel’s direct involvement in supporting the armed terrorist groups and proves coordination between the Zionist entity and the terrorists.
“It is evident that Israel never hesitates in providing direct support for the terrorists to ease the pressure put on them by the Syrian army. It also shows Israel’s indifference towards the repercussions of its aggressive behavior which causes more tension and instability in the disengagement area and the sites around it,” the ministry said.
It added that the Syrian government “urges the Security Council to condemn the Israeli attacks which violate the international law and creates more tension and instability in the disengagement area.”
The ministry pointed out that “Syria stresses that the credibility of the Security Council, the party tasked with keeping international peace and security, is weakened by the continuous attempts of some UNSC member countries to provide protection for Israel against any kind of accountability for its repeated violations through preventing the Council from adopting any stance condemning Israel for its attacks.”
“Syria reiterates its call on the Security Council to implement its resolutions, particularly 242, 338 and 497 which reject the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan and which provide for Israel’s withdrawal from all the occupied Arab territories including the Syrian Golan to the June 4th, 1967 borders,” the ministry concluded.
