Foreign Ministry: Turkish Attempts to Establish Buffer Zone in Syria Blatant Violation of UN Charter’s Principles, Objectives

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has affirmed that the Turkish attempts to establish a buffer zone in Syria is a blatant violation of the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, the rules of the international law and the resolutions of the Security Council relating to terrorism fighting.

In a statement today, the ministry reiterated the need to draying terrorism sources and urged the international community, particularly the Security Council, to act immediately to put an end to Ankara’s violations which pose serious threat to international and regional peace and security.

“Syria absolutely rejects the establishment of a buffer zone in any part of its land whatever the pretext is and also rejects any aggressive intervention by foreign forces over its lands,” the ministry said, pointing out that Syria will have consultations with its friends on all procedures needed to protect the country’s national sovereignty and land safety.

The ministry’s statement stressed that since the eruption of the crisis in Syria, the Turkish government has been keen to destabilize Syria and threaten its unity and territorial integrity.

“The Turkish government has provided all forms of political, military and logistic support for armed terrorist groups including shelter, training, finance and arms, and it facilitated the infiltration of terrorists coming from 83 countries into Syria,” the ministry said, pointing out that this made Turkey a main base for the terrorism hitting Syria and Iraq and threatening other countries of the region.

The ministry clarified that the Turkish conspiracy, which has been uncovered in the Syrian city of Ayn al-Arab puts forward a clear evidence of the close connection between Ankara and Daesh (ISIL) Terrorist organization.
