Syria affirmed its full support for the positions announced by China against the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives to Taiwan, stressing that the visit is a hostile act that is inconsistent with international law, and does not respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement: Syria condemns in the strongest terms the unprecedented escalation and policy of provocation practiced by the United States of America against the People’s Republic of China, and affirms that the announcement by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives of her intention to visit Taiwan during the tour that she started in some East Asian countries is a hostile act, inconsistent with international law, and does not respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China, pointing out that it is irresponsible behavior that falls within the framework of continuous efforts by the successive US legislative and executive authorities to strain the situation in that region and in other regions of the world, threatening international peace and security. Such an act exposes the delicate and fragile situations in our world to more vibration and chaos.
The Ministry added, “The hostile and reckless American policies that target the sovereignty of states, their territorial integrity and their right to self-determination have become a source of fear for the present and future of humanity, and this is evident in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and inevitably in the European continent.”
The Ministry statement continued, “Syria affirms its absolute and unlimited support for China’s efforts and its principled positions in confronting attempts of external interference in its internal affairs, whether in Taiwan, Hong Kong or Xinjiang.”
The statement concluded by saying that Syria recognizes only one China, and fully supports the positions declared by the People’s Republic of China against this visit and China’s non-negotiable or bargaining right to take the measures and steps it decides to defend its right to protect and preserve the Chinese sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
