DAMASCUS, Sep.1, (ST)- Syria has reiterated its call on the UN Security Council and the UN Secretariat to condemn the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory as a violation of sovereignty and a direct threat to regional and international peace and security, holding the occupation responsible legally morally ,politically and financially for deliberately targeting the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo and for sabotaging civilian facilities and endangering the lives of civilians.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a letter it sent on Thursday to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council that yesterday at around 20:00 pm “Israel” launched a missile attack on Aleppo International Commercial Airport causing damage to the runway and putting it out of service and completely destroying the navigational aid station and its equipment and putting them out of service too.
The letter added that Israeli warplanes also carried out yesterday at 21:18 a missile attack from the direction of Lake Tiberias, north of occupied Palestine, targeting some points southeast of the city of Damascus, including Damascus International Airport. It indicated that the attack left material losses, including the destruction of the navigation aid station and the distance measuring device at Damascus International Airport.
The ministry underlined that the Israel occupation deliberately exposes Syrian airports and civilian aircraft in Syrian airspace to dangers.
“The General Organization of Civil Aviation in the Syrian Arab Republic will submit an official complaint to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to take the necessary action in accordance with its regulations and obligations in the face of the Israeli aggression on the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo, based on the legal rules in the field of criminalizing targeting civil airports and aviation rights in accordance with international conventions, foremost of which is the Charter The United Nations, the Chicago Convention and its annexes on the safety of civil aviation, the Montreal Convention of 1971, as well as international humanitarian law,” the letter stressed.
The Foreign Ministry affirmed that Syria preserves its full rights in holding the Israeli occupation accountable legally, morally, politically and financially for deliberately targeting the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo and causing all that sabotage and destruction, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
Syria reiterates its call on the security council and all those concerned in the UN Secretariat to condemn Israel’s attacks and violations of the international law provisions.
