Foreign Ministry: GCC declaring Hezbollah a terrorist organization reflects Saudi confusion

Damascus – Syria affirmed on Wednesday that the decision made by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) declaring Hezbollah a terrorist organization reflects the Saudi confusion and represents an attempt to hijack the will of the Arab people in the Gulf countries who reject normalization and establishing ties with Israel, SANA reported.

On Wednesday, GCC declared Hezbollah a terrorist organization in a step that is in line with the Israeli agenda and does a service to armed terrorist organizations which are funded and supported by the Saudi regime.

“In a step that is in line with Israeli policy, the GCC issued a decision classifying Hezbollah a terrorist organization because it is confronting the Zionist project in the region and the Israeli enemy through its great sacrifices which have resonated across the Arab and Muslim nations,” an official source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said.

The source pointed out that Israel had previously considered Hezbollah a terrorist organization, supported in this by its allies in Western countries due to the struggle and steadfastness of resistance heroes.

The source added that combating terrorism which is represented by ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations in Syria and the contribution of Hezbollah in this historic confrontation bothered some decision-making capitals in the Gulf, mainly in Saudi Arabia.

The source affirmed that Syria will always consider Hezbollah an Arab resistance movement against the Israeli enemy and terrorism, stressing that Syria takes pride in its ties with the resistance movement in the region and respects the great sacrifices of Hezbollah’ martyrs in Lebanon and Syria.

The source concluded its statement by saying that such decisions serve to unmask the scope of the conspiracy against Palestine, Syria and the resistance.
