Foreign Ministry : Europe’s decision to allow the arming of Terrorists in Syria Violates Political Solution

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates  viewed the decision taken by  the EU Foreign Ministers in  05.27.2013  provides for renewing economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, but  allowing EU member states to supply weapons to the armed terrorist groups,  as a violation of  alleged care for the  Syrians, and to finding  a political solution to the crisis in Syria , based on a Syrian-led national dialogue by providing terrorists  with weapons in a clear violation of the international law and the UN Charter .

“The said decision  unmasks  political hypocrisy practiced by France and Britain, which alleged keenness on the interest of the Syrian people, while pressuring  within the EU  to renew economic sanctions on Syria, on the one  hand,  and supply terrorists in Syria with arms on the other, rather than embarking on  lifting  these non ethical sanctions  ,  imposed outside international legitimacy and to contribute genuinely to create the conditions to launch a national Syrian dialogue in the  international conference to be held in Geneva , refrain from supporting terrorism targeting the Syrian state , shed the Syrian  blood , destroy hospitals, schools, public and private property and state institutions services, Muslim and Christian  worship houses and looting and destruction of monuments and historical heritage , stealing  factories ,assassinating and kidnapping clergymen ,  targeting journalists and raking shrines, in  compliance to al-Qaeda behavior followed everywhere,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday.

The spokesman indicated that the EU  adoption of policies of France and Britain, in imposing its subversive and anti-Syrian people policies  already reflected  in the EU decision regarding the import of  Syrian oil and derivatives and  export oil and gas  technologies in Syria for terrorist organizations, especially for al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra front  makes the EU  a partner in terrorist organizations  crimes , in violation of the EU obligations to  the  suppression of financing terrorism.

The spokesman noted serious questions about the EU’s policy in fighting terrorism , adding:”the EU have to  draw lessons from the incidents committed by al-Qaeda affiliated  extremists in Europe during the past few days, and to  be  aware that terrorism is a global scourge, which  knows no boundaries and that international efforts should be directed  to combat it, regardless of its location or time , rather than adopting a double standard policy and political hypocrisy in this area.”
