DAMASCUS, (ST) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has stressed that latest anti-Syria stances by British officials, including those in the Foreign office, uncover the British politicians’ intervention in certain issues that are not of their business in accordance with international laws and UN Charter.
Addressing the UN Chief and President of the Security Council in two identical letters, the foreign ministry said the British stances revealed that some western governments particularly the British and the French have nostalgia to their long colonialist history by trying to impose their mandate on independent countries under several pretexts as to impose certain political systems that serves their own interests, ignoring, by doing so, the aspirations and rights of the people of these countries to self determination and to peaceful and secure life.
“The people of the region as well as those of Asia, Africa, Middle East and Latin America are still suffering from the tragic results of the colonialist policies and destructive role of Britain’s successive governments in the region,” the foreign ministry said, adding that best example of these policies has been the ill-famed Balfour Declaration and Sykes-Picot agreement.
It clarified that the British government has dedicated its potentials and colonialist expertise to undermine peace and security in Syria through providing financial, arms, media and political support to the takfiri terrorist organizations in the country.
“The British support to the mercenaries and takfiri terrorists in Syria unveils the British officials’ political hypocrisy, double standard policy and false claims about maintaining democracy, fighting terrorism and protecting human rights.
The ministry described the British officials’ denial of Syria’s right to fight terrorism, attain peace and security in the country and expel the terrorists, who came to Syria from more than 100 countries, as shameful and as contradicting the country’s national duty to defend its lands and people in accordance with the UN Charter, the international law and the Security Council resolutions.
