Foreign Minister Receives Korean Delegation in Damascus

Today, Foreign Minister Mr. Asaad Al-Shaibani met with a Korean delegation headed by Ms. Eun Jung Kim, Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea.

The Minister welcomed the South Korean delegation and emphasized the commitment to opening a new chapter and establishing good relations that serve the interests of both nations while ensuring security, prosperity, and peace for the Syrian people.

During the meeting, Ms. Kim affirmed her country’s eagerness to restore diplomatic relations with Syria for the first time since 2003 and to provide support for humanitarian aid efforts. She highlighted South Korea’s experience in post-war reconstruction and economic growth.

Ms. Kim stated that South Korea would provide food aid and support for the health sector, in addition to assessing and offering urgent assistance as needed.

She also mentioned that her country would encourage its business leaders to visit and engage with the Syrian market. Furthermore, she emphasized that South Korea would work through its channels to help ease sanctions on the Syrian people.
