HOMS, (ST) – Agriculture Department in Homs estimated the production of the almond crop for the current agricultural season at 62.893 thousand tons of the trees planted on an area of 593.455 thousand dunums.
Head of the Statistics Department in the Directorate, Eng. Ehsan al Tahsh, said in a statement that the total number of trees planted with almonds in all areas of the governorate is about 22 million trees.
Eng. al –Tahsh noted that the area of irrigated land planted with almonds is about 7522 dunums and the unirrigated land is about 585.933 thousand dunums, pointing out that the cultivation of almonds spreads in areas of al Mokharram and al Qouseir.
It is noteworthy that Homs city is ranked first among the governorates in terms of the production of almonds, and the size of the spaces and the number of trees which occupy 73 percent of the total cultivated area in Syria.
