For the First Time, Syrian Medical Team Successfully Separates Conjoined Twin

LATTAKIA- A medical team of Tishreen University Hospital in Lattakia has successfully separated two identical twin boys conjoined at the abdominal area in the first-of-its-kind operation on Syria’s level.

Speaking to SANA, Surgeon Dr. Ammar Omran said that the conjoined twin was attached at the abdominal area and there is a fusion at the intestine, liver and a small part of the rib cage.

 During the operation, the medical team separated the intestines and blood vessels between the twin and then the team re-created the abdominal cavity to return the intestines into it, SANA reported.

The boys are doing well, Omran said, adding that they currently receiving respiratory support at the ICU of the Hospital.
